Population Statistics.

The Registrar-General has issued his usual quinquennial return covering the movements of population from 1901 to 1905. The table shows that in these years tl:,c population ot the colony was increased by excess ot births over deaths, and by excess ot arrivals over departures, in the following manner ;

Calculated on a centesimal basis the increases of the li'e years have been as follows 1901, 9.59 per hundred of the population ; 1909. 9.57 jer c.nt. ’ 1903, 1904. 3.04 per cent. ; 1904, 3.01 pen cent ; 1905, 991 per cent. In tlu> year 1901 the net increase from abroad, after deducting the number of persons who left New Zealand, was U599 ; for 1902 it. rose to 7999, and in the following year to over eleven thousand persons ; but the excess foe 1904 was reduced to 10.355, and to 9,309 for’l9-05, In live years New Zealand lias gained. according to the returns, [ 15.H0 people from abroad, mostly from Australia and the Home Country, after deducting 1 hose who departed outward's.
