The report of the legal and parliamentary department being read and adopted the following resolutions were passed : —Adinning the economic equality of husband and wife; the desirability of the legal recognition of the same; urging that .sc-ienlinc temperance instruction be included in the examinations for teachers’ cei’tideates and made a compulsory class subject in schools ; urging that all sex distinctions enforced in the factory Act be abolished, these being prejudicial to the .economic interests of women ; that parents should be obliged to contribute to the support oi their illegitimate children ; that failing the ability of the parents the State should provide for such children : that paternitv being proved these children should he registered in the name of the father and possess an equal stains with those horn in wedlock; that a woman should be appointed as a public idlicer to discover the parentage of such children, where possible, with a view to providing for their maintenance ; alUrming the principle pi equal pay for equal work. The question of the W.C.T.I . exhibit at the International Inhibition was discussed. It was decided to accept the invitatiion of Christchurch for the Convention to meet there m 1907.
