The finish of the £IOOO race was most exciting, and so close that the lirst six riders could have been almost covered with the proverbial blanket. Arnst’s linal sprint was a splendidly sustained and plucky elTort. lie finished so strong that ho took all the sting out of the worldfamed sprinters, llutt’s great pacing effort to catch the front rankers, however, told against him when it came to the push. A rust subsequently started in the five mile scratch race, but failed to get a place, .Meyer winning 'in 10 min. MR secs.
A rust left for N.Z. by the Mono wai, which sailed on Saturday.
