Attempted Suicide in Invercargill.
CLERK SHOOTS HIMSELF. HIS CONDITION SERIOUS. A young man named .John I!. Roxburgh, aged about 26 years, employed in Broad, Small and Co.’s ollice, made a determined attempt to commit suicide early on Saturday evening. Shortly after 6 p.m. he retired to a shed at, the back of the warehouse, and sent a lad named Shierhournc With a message to Mr D. Wesnoy, a fellow clerk, to come and see him. Mr Wesnoy went to the apartment and found Roxburgh lying on (ho floor, his face covered with blood. In reply’ to a question he sdated that he was tired gV life and that, ho had made an attempt to end it by shooting himself. No one on the premises heard the shots tired. Ho was at once removed to the hospital, where it was found that he had two bullet wounds in the forehead. A six chambered revolver, of the toy pattern, was discovered in the outhouse, and an examinmipn showed that four chambers had been discharged. One of the bullets was found embedded in the wall Roxburgh had been, in poor health for some time, apparently suffering from (its of despondency, and probably this induced him to make the attempt to end his existence. He bears an excellent character, and no doubt, his act was committed during a lime of acute mental trouble. Mis parents reside at Atlantan, a few miles south of Mosgicl. On enquiry at, the hospital yesterday we were informed that no serious symptoms have arisen so far. but it was impossible to say that lie was out of danger, ns the lend pellets have not been extracted, and the depth of penetration cannot be ascertained.
