IMPORTANT TOPICS. j Per United Press Association. GREY MOUTH, March 21). At the W.C.T. Union tio-day Miss L. M. Smith, having been reappointed editor of the White Ribbon, and Mrs 11. Hill, business manager, a resolution was passed heartily thanking Miss Smith for the excellent work done by her in the dual capacity, and attributing the success of the paper largely to her efforts. It was resolved " that; rwo emphatically protest against the action of the colonial secretary in granting charters for the sale of intoxicating liquor to clubs at Masterton, Pending and Hastings, when all these districts recorded a majority vote in favour of no-license " ; that life "Imperial Government bo urged ollicially to discountenance the trallic in opium. Mrs Whitley's report of tho work among seamen showed that the Dunedin and Timaru Unions own the sailors' rests in their respective districts. The report of home meetings was received. Mrs Webb presented the report of purity work. Very favourable nreounts being given of the work of Mr R. H. W. llligh. An able paper entitled ''Women on Charitable Aid Boards " was read. Miss Robert moved, and the Convention carried, resolutions alarming the desirability of public institutions for the care of men, women ami children, being governed by boards composed of both men and women ; that separate homes should ho established where men and women destitute of sexual control m.iy lie detained and cared for mentally and physically, and that such homes should be in the country whore rural occupations could be provtided : also expressing appreciation of the report of Mr Bishop. S.M.. in tlie recent Waltham enquiry.
