With a promise of a line Jay there was a fair attendance of the public at Ihe annual regatta of tho Otago Rowing Association. Tho day turned out dull, and a pretty strong hond wind made tho water on tho more exposed part of the course rather rough to please oarsmen. The first two races were got off all right, Invercargill winning both, but in the Senior Double Sculls one of the boats swcjmped, and it was decided t.o postpone events for an hour. At the expiry of this time it was decided to go on with all except the senior events, which were to be rowed in best-and-best boats. The water had by this time got worse instead of improving, and thus mnde good oursmanship impossible, but in spite ot this the events were got off successfully. MAIDEN DOUBLE SCULLS. I—lnvercargill Rowing Club (T. Brown and G. Laing) U—Otago Rowing Club (E. M. Carter and B. Pet re) 3—Dumcdin Amateun B.C. (J. Houston oral J. (B crew). Queen's Drive, and Gum-am. This race curries with it the White Memorial, the only trophy open to Southland crews at this regatta. JUNIOR DOUBLE SCULLS. I—I.R.C. (R. Todd and D. Campbell) 2— O.R.C. (!'. Taylor und J. H. Drake) Also started : Queen's Drive und Dunedin Amateurs. This race provided a hard go between the two leading boats, Invercargill getting liomv by a good length. JUNIOR FOCUS. I—Queen's Drive (Thompson, Ruddy, Jones and Thompson)! 'J —Dunedin Amateurs (I'rideaux, Rogers, Bruse, Cook) U—l'prt Chalmers (Clark, Glengarry. Ray and Love) Also started : In\ ercargill. Northern!, und Otago. liuishing in that order. In this race the wind had increased and the water was very rough, making good rowing impossible. The tirst four crew's finished very close together. MAIDEN PAIRS. I—Otago R.C. (I'atou and Huttou) 2—I.R.C. (Ritchie and Steele) Also started: Northend. Queen's Drive, und Dunedin Amateurs. The Invercargill pair led until close to the finish, when Otago put on a well-judged spurt, winning by a length. SENIOR FOURS. I—I.R.C. (U. C. Basstian. T. Brown. O Laing. W. Johnstone) Fort Chalmers and Dunedin Amateurs tied for second place. Also started : Queen's Drive and Northend.
