Fire in Dunedin
Per United Press Association. DUNEDIN, March 18. Fire broke out on Saturday evening tn the furniture factory and store yard of Scoullar and Chisholm, Ltd., in Rattray street. Fortunately it was discovered before it bad a good bold, as otherwise the whole place, full of inflammable material and seasoned timber, must have gone. As it is the building is intact except the windows and where the liremen took off a portion of the roof. Part of the building in which the machinery is was untouched. Approximately the damage is estimated at between £ISOO and £2OOO, largely depending on how many articles in process of manufacture were injured. There was an insurance policy for £2OOO on the building and stock, distributed among various oilices. How the lire originated is a mystery. No work bad been carried on after noon and the place where the lire broke out is away from the engine-room. If it had been smouldering all the altcrji is thought some of the maily hundreds who .passed must hate smelt lire.
