Friendly Societies’ Requirements.
Per United Press Association. WF.LLI N'CITON, Jan. 30. The failed Friuitlly Societies Council has issued a circular to the various orders 'throughout N./-. on the subject of the pnuen.sod cum'ercncc of Friendly Societies in ''lay next. As reasons for such a com'enence the Council points out lhat the proposal of the tloverniuent to introduce a Friendly Societies amending till next session makes it specially desirable that a conference should pronounce upon it befone its introduction ; further, • hat the recent amendment of the Old Age Pensions Act permits the penalisation of members of Friendly Societies in-so-much as benefits received from societies may he reckoned as a set off against, the amount of the pension grained ; further, that the time has now arrived for a federation of the various orders throughout. X.Z. by means of a division of the colony into districts for the election of councils, to lie registered under the new- Friendly Societies Act; periodical holding of a conference of delegates to discuss matters dealing with legislative and oilier proposals conducive to the interests of Friendly Societies generally ; and the election of a colonial executive to act as a vigilance committee during the interviews of the aforesaid conferences.
