Death of an Enterpris ing Colonist

OAMARU, Oct. 27
News has been received from Vancouver, 8.C., of the death there, suddenly, of Thomas Meek, President of the Flourmillers’ Association and head of the firm of J. and T. Meek, flourmillers. Born in 1842 in Lanarkshire, he arrived in Dunedin by the ship Electra in 1863, settled in Oamaru the same year, and had resided here ever since. The first mill owned by the firm was established in 1867. In 1872 the firm purchased the Crown mills and converted them into a roller- mill in 1886. Mr Meek jwas for many years a member of the Borough Council and Harbour Board. He was greatly respected in the district, and, indeed, throughout the colony. He leaves a widow, three sons and three daughters. Deceased had been in poor, health for some time, and left for a trip Home a few months ago. He was reported to be greatly improved, and was on .the way home,, via .Canada;
