The Military Revel
So far as the stage items are concentr'd the most important feature of the amusements will be the Stewart trio, who have been engaged by the committee at considerable, expense. Referring to their opening performance with 'John Fuller and Sons, at His Majesty’s Theatre, Wellington, the Evening Post says This talented family give a performance of unusual merit, and one that appeals far tmore strongly than vaudeville " turns ” To the sympathies of lovers of music. These elever people have made a specialty of music, which without l-eing “.freak ” melody, is 'as fresh and uncommon as it is artistic and sweet, A*clever banjo was followed by a song by Miss Stewart, which was exceptionally sweet. Melodies wpre then produced on a set of 860 “ Canadian sleigh bells,’’ and the musical possibilities of the tintinnabulation that inspired Poe in his famous poem .was fully demonstrated. Bellringers have already appeared in Wellington in hosts, but this clever trio handles the bells with ai finish and precision much above the overage of such performers. The ringing lyric, timbre of this rtbvel source of music was as sweet and pure as it was uncommon, and evoked a most enthusiastic response from the audience. The “ aluminium organ chimes,” producing ui blend of bell-tones and organ! notes, provided some very attractive melody, including a selection from "Il Trovatore.” There, is not the shadow ot a loubt but that the revel colmmittee will be amply rewarded by exceptionally ’arge audiences to hear these famous musicians. The whole programme for the opening night teems with now and novel 'terns.
