Proprietary Medicine

Patent medicine proprietors refuse to deposit their, formulae with New Zealand officials, and are ceasing exports to the colony and their advertisements. Per United Press Association. Wellington, May o. Sir J. G. Ward, Minister for Public Health, interviewed re the patent medicine cable, stated that he had received no intimation on the subject. He had understood that, generally speaking, the recent arrangOmenit was satisfactory to the great bulk of patent medicine proprietors. The only question was the best way to protect the public fi‘om deleterious compounds. He could not see that the, proprietor of a medicine had anything to fear under (he regulations. He simply lodged his formula confidentially with the Minister for Public Health ; it did not go on record in the Department in any way. There must be a misconception on the part of proprietors. However, he would look into the matter again.
