The Waikare arrived from Dunedin al noon, and sailed for Hobart at 5 p.m

yesterday. The Marine Department advise tlhat I’uysegur Point light will be made fixed on or about the night of Wednesday, and will remain so for about a fortnight.

The German ship, Nordsee lias jest accomplished an excellent sailing feat. She arrived in Melbourne 78 days from Bremen. The vessel covered th? distance from the Lizard to the Equator in 14 days, but lost time between the Equator and the meridian of the Cape- Thence across the Southern Ocean to Fort Phillip she was only 19 days. Tho early N.Z. trader Robert * Henderson travelled from the Clyde to Port Chalmers in <8 days so long ago as 1858, and t‘he barque Mystery covered the distance frdm the Lizard to the Line also :n 14 days something' about 50 years ago. 'There's nothing new under the sun.” The s.s. Monowai left Hobart at noon on Saturday, and is expected to arrive at the Bluff at noon to-day. U.S.S.
