WELLINGTON, Feb. 23
A meeting of members of the Civil Service was held to-night to consider the advisableness of approaching the Government for a comprehensive scheme of superannuation, embracing the whole Service. Tire meeting passed a resolution in favour /of superannuation and decided that a conference of representatives from eacli board throughout the colony meet, in Wellington early in April.
The 'Government is still trying to es-tablish-cargo communication between Vancouver and N.Z. if it can be arranged without paying too much. Sir Joseph Ward says it would be a good thing to get a connection with Vancouver as well as San Francisco. The Land Board has had before it the question of whether applicants under the Land tor Settlements Act should be examined on oath. The opinion given by the Under-Secretary for Laws was that it did not appear necessary to compel applicants to give evidence on oath unless the Board had reason to doubt the bona tides of the applicant. DUNEDIN, Feb. 23.
The Marine Hatchery Board has resolved to proceed with the construction of a lobster pond. The S.S.A. and N.Z. Shipping Companies have promised to give every facility for the importation of the live crustaceans.
