Concert at Bluff

The Bluff Choral Society gave their first concert ' on Friday evening, 28rd inst. Tho society is young and its membership is not yet large, but it possesses enthusiasm. The audience was a' poor one, a fact accounted for doubtless Sy the short and meagre, notico given of it, and also by the season's social demands oa the community. However, those who attended, enjoyed a musical treat, and were unanimous in their expressions of ' approval of the excellence of the programme! and the good work done by the society. Every item was nicely ' rendered. The first part was devoted to Ghri&troas music ; the second was secular. The sobriety sang three anthems, " Open ye the Gates," "O Gladsome Light, and " Adeste Fffdeles," the soli m tbe. latter being taken by Mesdames Crockett, Tulloch, Messrs E. Parker and 11. Lee. The singing of the duet " Love Idyine," by Mrs Young and Mr George was very pleasing, and Mrs Crockett waß beard tto advantage in "The Gift." Mr Crockett samr " A dream of Paradise," Mr H. Attwood "Nazareth/ and Mr Reed "Les Rameaux," each receiving hearty approval, and the Quartette "God is a Spirit", was effectively, sung by Miss Metzger, Mra Creagh, Messrs George and G. A. Nichol. To the secular portion the society contributed the glees " A Spring/ Song," " From Oberon fin Fairy Land, "Where art thou, beam of Light," and the unaccompanied part song " Into- the silent land," all "being "excellently sung. Miss Metzger sang ,r Sing me to Aleep," Mrs Creagh *' A land acroßs the *ea," and Mrs Tulloch " Star of the sea," nnd each solo received due appreciation. A duet, " Nocturne," by Misses Metiger and Hamilton was a capital number, and Mr Guy gave a spirited rendering of " The Miner." Mr Reed conducted, and Miss Wilson was a most efficient accompanyist. Tho interval was pleasantly Oiled by Mr Lee'a graptropfeone eeleetiona. .;
