The number of letters posted in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin waa 777,---621, and the number, of telegrams on | 24th December from the same places was 14,364.

The amount of business transacted at tho Invercargili post-office during tho same period was as follows (the figures in parenthesis refer to 14.03! : — Outward : Mail bags, boxes ond hampers, 676.(683); letters and cards, 52,090 (43,157) - books, 29,---754 (28,928) ; newspapers, :» 3,083 (11,893) ; parcels, 113 (110).
