From several really fine crops of roots, grown from our selecttd^pcdigrce stocks, [several tons of typical specimens are selected. I Tho roots are examined individually by oxpeitsand laid out in rows fora final inspection by one of tho Partners, and in due time the armroved roots are planted in some spot where the safety of the crop from cress-fertilisation can be assured. This selection not merely ■Km* a stock which will produce roots of perfect form with a minimum of waste, but what is of equal importance to the Farmer-a stock which will yield the greatest possible weight per acre, combined with a lii«h percentage of nutritive constituents. When selection is carried out with the latter object only in view, it is very easy to obtain a high percentage of sugar at the expense of weight per acre, the roots then being small, unshapely, fangy, aud, as in the case of Sugar Beet, rendering the labour of lifting.very .costly.
