A native of County Galway, Ireland, he was early afoot in searcll of fortune, and was landed by the ship i&eorge Canning 'in 'Duhedin. in 1857: In coranjcm with other pio-> neers ho endured privation and hardship until, in" 1862; he married and settled down on a small government section near Groper's Bush. With a home to carve out Mr Forde tailed early and late*' and this unwearying energy was at last rewarded l*y a fair measure of . success. ITavJag se* cured a fair competence the deceased continued to take an active parb in the never-ending labour of furmlife, until after crossing the allotted span of three score years and ten his health began .to fail. • During the past few years he boro his sufferings with patience and resignation and the end on Sunday morning was calm and peaceful.
