MELBOURNE, Sept. 9, Mr Watson, who has been elected leader of the Opposition, attacked Mr* Reid's policy. He said the Government was conservative and was supported by reactionaries of hia party. He would take advantage of every legitimate opportunity to hurl tho Government from office. UN-" HAPPY AUSTRALIA. "- Received 10th, 0.4 a.m. The policy debate came to ?a sudden termination. Sir W. Lyne said' the Hon. G. Hi. Reid was usurping a position he had no right to and had achieved his end by .machinations the most disgraceful in the history of politics. He called attention to the state of the House, with the result that a count out occurred. Mi* Reid, speaking on the matter after the House adjourned, said he did not know whether there waa any design in the proceeding, but the Opposition had deprived themselves of an opportunity of continuing their criticism of the policy of the Government. If it turned out to be a mere accident and the loader of the Opposition wished tho debate resumed, ho would have no objection, but if the thing was 'done designedly the motion would not bo restored to the order paper.
