might have' made a fair show for fourth place. Taking all the clubs that belong to the different first-class Unions in the colony, I think the three that brought up Southland's rearguard last season would find places near the tail end. In looking up last year's records I find that the lowest of the three first teame in Southland scored more points than the liivercargilC Jlthletie anil 'Cambridge clubs combined, yet soino people think that another senior team is desirable— more preposterous rot was never thought of. The S.R.F.U. committee this year should not therefore sanction any more weak teams, but endeavour to consolidate some of those already in existence and thus bring about better contests. In rp-classifying the Cambridge boys as juuioi-s the Executive hns done the correct thing in the interests of the game they control and they have also thereby pleased the country teams, by improving junior football.
