At the conference to^iay a paper was read by Dr (Jow, medical officer of tho Mount View Asylmn, on responsibility iin crime. Two judges and a number of lawyers were present. in relation to the mental condition oi" prisoners charged with a particular class of crime. In the discussion which took place the establishment of halfway houses between gaols and asylum's was recommended for the treatment of persons suffering from some mental affliction.
