Dangerous Sight-Seeing
WELL-KNOWN JOURNALIST. KILLED. Per United Tress Association. DUNEDIN, Jan, 24. Members of the Otago Harbour Board and a number of visitors went to the heads this afternoon to inspect tho Hoard'9 workß and to witness a big blast, consisting of 8001b of gunpowder in a drive -10ft long, just opposite tho jetty at the North Head. Most of the spectators woro standing on the jetty, and the blast iilew out in tEat direction, sending a shower of stones along the jetty. Mr Francis Antonio Joseph, reporter for the Otago Daily Times, was struck on tho head and killed instantaneously ;Mr E. (S. Allen. M.H.R.. was wounded on an ankle, but not seriously ; and Mr Patrick Ryan, who was standing at the extreme end of the jetty was struck by a stone nnd had n n arm broken ; the stone glancing off among the passengers on the tug, fmt not hurting anyone. t
