Tho president explained that the principle had been affirmed by the Chamber and it was thought desirable to remain quiescent for a time, watching developments. The N.Z. legislation passed on the subject was briefly criticised and described by Mr R Hobbs as monstrous. Mr Aiken suggested that expert opinion should be obtained on the legislation and that tradespeople and merchants affected should be asked to make recomliienh dilutions with a view to securing amendments next session. Mr Vaile gave notice of a motion to discuss the preferential and reciprocal tra<io proposals at the next monthly meeting. A STRAIGHT ISSUE. LONDON, Jan. 27. Received 27th, 10.10 p.m. One hundred and eight members of the Manufacturers section of the London Chamber of Commerce, a ns\vered afnin a tively the question : "Do you favour preferential trade within tho Empire and with foreign countries on a reciprocal basis ?"
