There has always been a spirit ol keen, though friendly, emulation between lhe shootist.s of Dunedin and those of Invercargill, but unfortunately the remoteness of the places from ouch other lias prevented the members of either Gun Club from meeting in straight-out, competition at the trnr's. The first ot these hoint-und-home matches against tho Dunedin clul> was lately arranged, and was concluded when the local club shut lust Wednesday, the, Duuedin team having done their part the previous Saturday. The conditions were 18 birds, 14i yards' mark, 1U m<-n aside. The weather was anything but pleasant for the local team, the match being shot in pouring rnin, with m strong S.U. wind. Which considerable hampered" the shootists. The scorer appointed by the. Dunedin team failed to put in an appearance, but as Wednesday was tko only suitable day for some weeks, the committee decided to shoot the match and leave the scoring in the hands of the. secretary (Air D. Bain). The Uunedinites made l-iii, tho local men 13V); tiie lonncr thus winning l>y 7 points. All things considered, the Invercargill team are to be congratulated on un-ir good penormance, and when tue return match takes place it is to ho hoped better weather will favour tho local men. For the Dunedin team Messrs A W. A. Harnard and .J . Black were lop score with 16 each, and for the local team Messrs T. Double and U. Bain broke 17, McCarthy 1(>. At the conclusion of the match, thu secretary read the Dunedin scores, and (..'upturn Bre\ called for three cheers for the winning team- Mr McVinish is deserving of the iiianks of al! shooters for acting a>s referee, his decisions giving universal satisfaction.
