THURSDAY, NOV, 12th. Tbo fortnightly meeting was attended by Messrs John Hay, (Chief Ooinmissioner), A. Kinross, J. Mclntyre, and D. 1 iving. Tho Department notified that the Chief Commissioner and Messrs Andrew Kinross and J. Mclntyre have been appointed Classification Commissioners to re-classify pastoral runs Nos. 164 a, 391, 423 a, 424, 1, 2a, 3, 4, and 7, in tho Southland Land District. It was resolved that the Government bo recommended to reserve for railway purposes sec. 1, block '2 ; sees. 1, 2, and 3, block 20 ; and sees. 1, 2, a, 7, 8, 12, 13 and 14, block 21, Lowther Township. H. G. List's application for exemption from payment of rent or. sec. '18, block 1, Waikawa, as there is no road to it, tvas refused. Assistant-ranger Forrester reported inspection of sec. 78, block 7, Invercargill Hundred, valuing it at X.5 per ncio, it being unimproved tussock Jmid with good soil. —Adopted, land to jio opened <.n optional system under part 3 of Land Act. Assistant-ranger Forr^sior reported on D. Young's application to graro sheep, for a while, on sec. 15, block 8, WajauAlerrivalc, and recommended that it bo granted at Id per head per week.—Application refused. H. M. XfcLeod applied for grazing licenso over 5J acrea of unmirvcyecl land between sees. 178 and 223, Forest Hill Hundred, and offered 5s per annum. — Granted under section 116. John Young offered 4s per ton for right to cut flax on island in river opposite sec. 06, block 15 Rew River Hundred.—Kangor to report. Jas. Shiels offered £5 per annum for grazing license over ccc. 747, Hokonui. — Itefused, section being held by AlcKeown. Tho same applicant's offer of £3 per annum, for seven years, for right to cut flax on sec. 747, Hokonui, was refused. Wm. Cruickshanks' offer of £30 for flax on reserves fronting sees. 24 and 43 to 46, blk. U, Jacob's River Hd.. was accepted, he being granted two years to cut same. The following transfers were approved — Sees. 44 and 47, block 31, Waiau-Alerri-valo, from T. H. Marshall to 11. Marshall ; and sec, 12, block 1, Alton, trom M. K. McDonald to M. Hanley. Klizabeth Taylor's application to sublet sec. 40, block 1, Longwood. to the Southland Sawinilling Co., was approved. In regard to sees. 31 nr.d 12, block 18, Longwood, it was resolved that if improvements are not effected by (hi* 28th February next, the leases will bo absolutely forfeited. J. J. Weston was granted exemption from residence on sec. 99, block '2. Longwood, as he resides on freehold land adjoining. The leases of sec. 27, block 9, Wni-kawa-Haldaue, and sees. 34 and 07, block 3, Seaward Bush Township, were forfeited, and it was decided to call on tho lessee of sec. 58, block 8, Campoelltown Hundred, to show cause why tho land should not be forfeited for nonresidence and insufficient improvements. Seventeen lessees, who had been called upon to show cause why their leases hould not be forfeited for non-payment of rent, wrote asking for time ; the requests, with three exceptions, being complied with. Of twenty-seven others, only three asked for time, the remaining twenty-four being forfeited. Tho Receiver was authorised to pay over to the Southland County Council thirds and fourths accrued from Ist May to Slat July, 1903, amounting to Ju2<« ys yd.
