An apology was received from Mr J. Day. . The secretary reported that during a visit to Stewart Island ho had .satisiicd himself that a woman receiving aid there could be discontinued, as she evidently had amplo means for her support. lie recommended that the friends of a woman who had recently been admitted to the Home be communicated with, and asked to pay her passage back to the Worth Island. The clerk Lake County Council applied for a rebate on properties on which the county now received .no rates. The difference in valuation was £1)591. as pro- | perties had been valued which did not exist. It was hardly fair to pay a tax on which no rates were payable —The Chairman and Mr Green pointed out that it was impossible for the Board to accede to the request,, as the rate was Based on the figures supplied by the Valuation Department. The Board could therefore do nothing. Sir J. G. Ward. Minister of Railways, wrote in reference to the Board's ap- ■ plication for the construction of a suitable car for the conveyance of fever cases from country districts. Each car would cost at least £900 to construct, and the Board would require to pay £75 rental for each car. On every oc- . casion of use the cost would not be less than six first-class fares, and it would even then be unremunerative to the railway.—Mr McGruer thought that the cost put the Board out of court. — Mr Green moved that the question bo held over for future consideration, and this was carried. Thomas Tressler, Lady Barkley. asked the Board to pay half coat of erection Of fence between his and the Board's sections at Brunswick. — Chairman to attend. Airs Baird, President of the Victoria Home, .requested the Board to receive a destitute woman into the Bowmout street Home.— A long discussion took ■ place, and it .was finally decided to receive the woman tor some time at any rate. The Chairman thought that the Victoria Home managers should make <more thorough enquiries before receiving such cases, and then asking the Board to take them over. J. Stewart, Appleby, made a complaint in regard to alleged " glaring drunkenness of some of the men in Bowmont . street Home." He saw three men from the Home go to an hotel and stay there ..- for more than an hour, on two different occasions in on& week. One of the men was led home drunk on both- occasions.— It was decided, without discussion, to refer the letter to the Master for a written report. The Master Lome Farm reported that ■- there were 20 men, 3 women, 24 boys, ' and 17 girls at tho Farm. A roller and disc harrow had been purchased but were rather too heavy for two horses, The usual requisition was attached.— Report adopted. A pane of glass had been wilfully broken by a boy using a catapault. and his parents so far had not replaced if. Application was _• mftflflfor assistance at the Home, as U>e Blaster had been called upon to perform duties that he was satisfied the Board never intended him to undertake. — The Chairman was authorised to secure payment for the broken window. On the question of giving tho Master assistance It was decided to advertise for a man to act in tho meantime, a permanent appointment to be made if necessary. The Master also reported that Mesdames Hasty and Lillico, and Messrs Hanson, Stewart, and F. Chennells gave the inmates an entertainment on the 22nd ult., and Mesdames Ball, Tomlinson, liillico and Bone, and Messrs P.
