Pirates Football Club.
Thci siile of work in aid of the Pirates Football Club, held' in the Temperance If 'all last evening, received liberal suj>purt from members and supporters. A number of ladies had taken the management in hand. and. they were able to present a very creditable display, a largo stall of ladies' ivork occupied the centre of the Door, and the stock, loaded on it rapidly diminished under the . attacks* of purchasers. Sirs Galbraith, Misses Lennie, Strang and Mcßobie were in charge, und the result was a compliment to their abilities as saleswomen as well as tho qualities of tho materials ottered. A doll ■stall, Miss Kattray superintending, wan placed, in a convenient corner. and was an attraction to those who aiw expected to invest in this important branch of house equipment. The flower stall did a large amount of business, the attendants lieing Misses M Galbraith, SJ. Cuvanah, R. Kirwan and J. Hat tray. The tea room, controlled by Mesdames Clt'iinip, Le I'etit, Lo Brun and MisscH (ialbraith, Kiddell and Mitchell, was extensively patronised, und there were no complaints made of the quality of the delicacies provided. The old fashioned bran tub was again produced, and Misses J. Straujr. M Smith and L. Smith hnd no difficulty in charming the necessary' .silver out of the unwary passers by. A skittle alley was aiso in full swing, and yi.'ssrs H. Coot, J. Willett and A, Galbruith should have netted a round sum for the club from the proceeds. There were three guessing competitions, viz., the weight of a Muscovy drake '.exhibited by .Mr Tom Lennic), the name of a doll (a inurvel of beauty), unri. the number'of peas contained in a bottle. The art union prizes were exhibited on the walls, assisting in the general decorutivo effects. An excellent musical programme was presented, business being stopped when soloists occupied the platform. Mr Kd wards-' orchestra contributed a number of selections, which were much appreciated, ami several leading lady vocalists gave enjoyable items. Members of the Battalion Band deserve the thanks of tile club for playing several marches outside tho hall. Tho Hale of work, gave every promise of being a success, and tho ladies so ably undertook the work deserve hearty recognition, for their efforts.
