The officers, of the Southland distriL-t of the 0.0. F., Manchester 'Unity, visited Lumstlen on Wednesday evening, then? being present Grand Master Bro. .1. L'aiiitJbell. Bro. A. Carnahan, deputy U.M., V.i>. a. M.'s liro. M. Alair (i'rov. C.S.), und Bro. T. Findlay, district treasurer ; also l'.G. Bro. Hill, irom Wiuton. In their olficial capacity tl\o district ollicers visited the .Lodge anil took notes of its working, also assisting un initiation. It was stated by the visitors that the working of tho Lodgo generally was very satisfactory, and th£,v Expressed themselves pleased at the reception they had received. After the ordinary meeting a P.O. Lodge was opened, aud the Purple Degree was conferred on three P.G.s; and nine past elective oiiicers' degrees were conferred. Aiv i'djouruincnt was then made to tho Public hull, wiitre KUiipcr was laid for si>:iy ladies ami gunUemen. This being disposed <>f, temperance beverages v.i»ro placed on the table, and a short toast list was put through. .N.G. Bro. F. McDonald presided, and I\G. Bro. Fraser occupied the vice chair. Miss Thomson, who was in splendid voice, sang two o"r three popular songs, and Mr Huston also sang, but this part had to be cut, short, as the inevitable dance was to form a part of the programme. Before clearing the floor, P.P.G.M. Bro. Findlay was called on to present P.G. Bro. C. L. Donaldson with a certificate of merit as a mark of respect from the Lodge, snowing that ho hutl passed through the -chairs satisfactorily. Bro. Findlay, in a" very complimentary speecji, made the presentation, and Bro. Donaldson suitably responded, thanking the Lodge generally, and those who hod assisted him to got through. Dancing was carried on for a uouple of hours, and all enjoyed themselves immensely. Mrs 3 as. Martin looked after the 'refreshment department, and had her hands full. Tho meeting, not so large as was expected, wtis in every other way most satisfactory.. .
