AUCKLAND. Sept. 1. A cable received by the N.Z. Yacht Club states : — Tho third race for (he Auicricn Cup was sailed to-day— «-vind 15 miles an hour and sea heavy. The Shamrock immediately after tho start went on the port tack, heading ofl the Reliance, which followed SIX seconds later. At 11.f>7 a.m. the Reliance talked and forced the Shamrock about, the Reliance pointing considerably higher than the Shamrock, and getting to windward. Half way to the outer mark the Reliance was leading by a Quarter ol a mile, both boats pounding badly. Later a shift of wind put the Reliance a mile to windward of the Shamrock, and four miles from the turn the Reliance wn.s leading by two miles. One mile from the turn the Reliance was still leading by two miles, wind, o knots an hour. 3.1G : The Reliance beat the Shamrock to the outer mark by 20mins. 22secs.
