The Burial of the Marquis of Salisbury

Ist, 9.55 p.m. B The late Marquis of Salisbury was j buried at Hatfield in the presence of f his family and a few personal J friends. A simultaneous service was , hold at Westminster Abbey, whore < the King, Prince of Wales, and the j Powers were represented, , Tho wreath sent by the Kin u to j Hatfield was inscribed : "As a mark * of the deepest regard, greatest ie- | spect and sincorest friendship." The i Queen's was inscribed : "In memory of tho Marquis of Salisbury, uimerstilly loved and mourned as one of ' England's best and greatest stalos- j men." The Archbishop of Cunzur- , bury, the Bishc^ of Colchester. and the local clergy officiated at the service. In Westminster Abbey tho scene recalled Mr Gladstone's funeral ' service. The gathering was national and representative of every section of the community. A service was u!so held in St. Saviour's Collegiate Church. South wark, the majority of those present being working pectple. In many parish churches services were also held.
