The members of the N.Z. representative football team arrived in Wellington from their Australian tour early this morning, and at 11 o'clock were welcomed name by Ministers at. .the Parliamentary Buildings. The ceremony took, place in Bellamy's, under the presidency of the Premier, with Sir. Joseph ."Ward in the vice-chair. Other Ministers "and members of Parliament were present; as well as a number of local- football enthusiasts. The Premier, - in- proposing the principal toast, referred •in eulogistic terms to the victorious march of the team, and recounted the records oi the various teams that had visited Australia ; records that had all been eclipsed by the present combination. jNew Zealand was proud of her sons who had osiubhshed a record unparalleled in the history of football." -.Mr Seddon. also expressed the colony's gratitude and appreciation of the Kindness shown 10 the flew Zealanders in Australia, especially oy the Governors of. "Mew Mouth Wales and Queensland, and by Sir John See and his liovernment. .Mr Morris, manager of the team, and Messrs Duncan and Wood (captain and vice-captain) responded. Sir N orris spoke very Highly of the conduct of the team and expressed his pride at having . had control of such a combination ; tne best that had left the vcolony. Oh Sir Joseph ' ward's motion, the health of the Australians was" also toasted in bumpers of champagne, and Col. fitt, a native of Tasmania,, and Mr >W Uofiey. replied. The former reminded the gathering that in other forms of sport, notabfly sculling and, cricket, Australia could give points to H.Z. The concluding toast— the health of the Premier — was proposed by Dr Newman; president of the iVcl.ltMgton B.lfi, and . -vice-presi-dent of the N.Z.R.U., and M/ Seddon was " jolly-good-/ellowed " by the team in Maori and honoured with their cry : enough, as he staid in replying, to terrorise any tcnjn. . -.--.-■ Per United Press Association. DUNEDIN, Aug. 29. The match Hawkes Bay v. Otago was plu-yed on the Caledonian Growntt under uniavourable conditions. Sleet, snow and hail fell at 2 o'clock, and there was another shower after play started. This, with the rain of the previous nigivt, inade> the ground heavy, riawkes Bay played against the wind in the first half, aaid held their own very well. They tired in the second half, and the local team had at good deal the best of the play. Otftgo .scored a try in each spell, and as the visitors failed to cross their line, Otago won by 6 points to nil. The local forwards had rather the best of the game, while the backs were a good dead better. CHRISTCHDUCH, Aug. 29. The annual match between Otago and Canterbury juniors was played in heavy iiain. In the lirst spell Dunn secured a try for Canterbury. In the. second Tennant and Docherty scored for Otago, McHardie plucing a goal from the latter's try. . ■ A match between Nelson College old boys ami High School old boya ended in a. draw, feaek side scoring tW6 tutes. The Wanganui Collegiate v. Christ's College match wa9 won by the former by 11 to U.
