. , ♦ Per United Press Association AUCKLAND, Aug. 30. On Saturday a man going by the name of " Kit-hard A. Scott " was arrested on t> charge of obtaining Xl li by false presences from the Hank of New Zealand, by representing himself to be Richard A. Scott, .son of a Suva widow. The case is likely to arouse some interest as the atim of the prosecution is to prove that the man under arrest, is not Scott, though they are not in a position to Ktiy 'who the man is if he is not "what he claims to be. Mrs Scott'e son joined a contingent when the South African war broke out, and served at the Cape. His mother heard nothing of him for a lengthy period, but in June cables commenced to come from Auckland in her son's name containing requests for money. The mother expected 9, letter from hpr son auri cabled him to write to hpr- This request was met with wore cabteftraiiVs awd, becaiiiiug sdiuewhat suspicious that the " Itichard A. Scott " of the cable messages, was not the genuine person, she communicated with Mr Murehie. a friend of the family, and asked " Scott ".. to see Mufclye. The man did not givo Murehie an opportunity of seeing him, but sent a parcel containing photographs of the Scott family and a large number of family documents. There nre four persons in 'Auckland who know Kichard \. Scott, of Kuvn, including out who Wtmt to school with him there, and they allege that while the prisoner is of sLmllar build he looks older and he has the accent of a Transvaaler.
