Otautau Horse Sale

The N.Z.L. and 2S.A. Co. repoi t having held a highly successful sale last Friday at Swcctinan's liazaar, when some 80 light und draught horses laced tho hammer. There being a strong mustpr of buyers for horses 01 good quality, and the majority of those on oner being in this category, keen competition resulted, and from tho start' horse after horse was; sold from the rostrum up to or above vendors' reserves.. Among the top division 0/ young working draughts Messrs Kennedy Bros., J. Devery, P. Fahey. R. Cupplcs, senr., and r. Hogan managed to obtain high prices for their. ..entries, which were- knocked down to Messrs D. Koidie, J__ Laidlaw, J. Hamilton, J. Low, T. Ryder, Wm. TTayward, and A Alcßride respectively, and who are to t v e congratulated on securing animals of more than ordinary merit, while some well-bred 3yr-old colts and fillies entered by Messrs W. Watson and R. Cupples, senr., changed into tho hands of Messrs T. Ryder and .las. Fleming, at very satisfactory prices. As a matter of fact, any draught, young or old, capable of doing honest work, sold readily at high figures, and without doubt had the entry been much bigger sales would have been effected, ns several genuine buyers failed to purchase at the hammer, and had to return home disappointed owiiy^' to svery likely horse having cnanged mnstens under competition. For old and stiff draiughts or hacks there was little or no demand. The prices realised were : — For draughts, colts and fillies, rising Syrold, £47 3 os, £41 10s, and £40; manes and geldings, under 7 years, X6l-, £55, £54. £51 10s, £50; £50, £44 10s. and £42 ; do do, over 7 year 9 (strong and active}, .£42, £35, £32, £27, and £20. Draughts averaged £'43 14s. Hacks and harness horses, fair to good, j £15 to £23. Tne. next sale will take place on Friday, 18th Septemhen.
