A sling of sugar, weighbig about a ton, struck his head . and doubled him up. On examination at the hospital it wus found that his spine w_s seriously hurt. WF.LLTNCTOX, Aug 4. In connection with the sudden death of Hugh Vallance, norb butcher, aged 33, thought \o be due to heant disease, a bottle, which had contained prussie acid, wivs found in his bedroom. A letter to a relative also points to Self-destruction. 'Mr Carew uphold this contention, nnd, defendant having elected to be tried by jury, Mr Solomon, lor petitioner, applied for a mandamus to compel Mr Carew to hear the case, this is the first time the question has- been raised in the colony. The Chief Justice reserved his decision.
