It was decided to write to the'Colonial'''Secretary asking that acclimatisation societies should be' permitted to destroy stoats and weasels where they: serve no useful purposes.' A long discussion took | place in regard to p.oaching, and it was resolved that the Council should approach the G o vermin en t.- with a request that the police be instructed to assist in the suppression of tho evil. Certain suggestions for amendments of the Ainimals Protection Act, and Fisheries ConI servation Act, will :• also bo placed' before the Government. Tho following rocoin'mondations of tho committee wore agreed to :*-(l) Ithat there be a uuifortm ! shooting season throughout the colony. I and a -uniform shooting license fee, and that societies .shall have power to endorse license* issued by other societies; (2) tli at the god wit season in Auckland be altered to ■ .December. January, and February ; (3) that it be made compulsory to tako oUt liconsew 'o shoot mitive game ; (4) that it be necessary for coursing clubs to taJ<Ci out license* of not less than '£5 m districts where hares are not vermin ; (o) that regulations be /rained providing for the registration of societies and definition of hioundari&s ; (fi) that any tperscwi dhall have tho privilege of transferring his right to shoot on his own land without license to any one person for a whole season : (7) that a uniform iishing licenso fee be arranged throughout the colony, without provision as to endorsement, as follows : £1 for men and fls for ladios- and boya, and that it be optional for a aociety to issue half-souson, single river, or special day licenses ; (8) that, the keeping of trout in a frozen state for more than seven days after the close of a fishing season be prahibited. llr liussell, the Southland delegate, speaking of the latte£ recommendation, said that huixluedwoiglUs!, if not tons, of frozen trout were sent away from his district after being netted.
