Sprigg announced that the Government would stand or fall by the Customs Convention. Mr Madan's amendment, to re-open negotiations for the purpose of protecting colonial manufacturers and otherwise changing the convention, was rejected by d."j to 39. while, on the Speaker's casting vote Mr Sonde's amendment for the elimination of the principle of preferential treatment was negatived and the Premier's motion approving of the convention agreed to.
