June 2<». 8171 meres second-class Crown land in the districts of Hawkins and Oxford, between Oxford and Shellield, was disposed of by ballot to-day, the terms being cash, occupation with iriftht of purchase, c.f lease in perpetuity. There were 3-1-1 applications, including 129 for a section of 263 acres with right of purchase, George liryne was committed for sentence to-day on charges of forging and uttering cheques to hotelkeepers and John Taggart for making a false order, whereby money was paid to him instead of to his wife. O AMARU. June 30. The premises of C. Kearns were broken into to-night and 18 watches stolen. The police have arrested two men, one with several of the stolen watches in his possession. One of the men has just served a sentence of 4 years in Dunedin. ' : i
