Concert.

J The complimentary concert tendered by the Scottish Societies of Southland to Heir y.iiiMneranann lust evening in the Zealivndift Hall was well attended , testifying to the popularity of the violinist in this district. Tho prograamuc presented was more than usually attractive, containing, as it did some of the gems of Scottish mUbic, us well as excellent miscellaneous items. Hen* Zimmernm'nn contributed a number of solos, principally adaptations of Scottish airs, with ,'tho usual effective variations. #Thoy were all rendered with a proper appreciation of sentiment, and met with general acceptation. Mr Louis Kingsland sang "Bedouin Love Song" admirably, and was equally successful with an encore item. Miss Spiller was slightly nervous in her first song, "Where Roses Gleam," but gave a pretty rendering of vMignon" in the second part. Mr T. C. ITood scored well in all his songs, and responded to the demands made on his good natjiire by the audience. A clarinet solo by Mr F. J. Lillicrap was nicely played, and he also had. to repeat Jiis item. Mr iW. Ferguson played v violin duet with Her? Zinnnerniann, find also a solo, "Robin Grey," iperhaps the best interpretation of the evening. Air Jas. MacGrcgor recited "Douglas' Parting With Maruiion" with appropriate spirit, and Mr Wiatson was equally pleasing- in his rendering of Farmer Judkins' description of Ilubenstein's pianoforte playing. The comic element was supplied by Mr C. R. Andrews, who was in, great demand. Mr A. Sutherland danced the Highland Fling olid sailor's hornpipe (both encored), and Mr "W. Jenkins played a bagpipe solo. The l»i|>e Hand, in addition to playing in the open, contributed :t military march. The accompaniments wei'e ably undertaken by Mrs C. 11. Andrews, Messrs McKiuuon and Home, rendering sjliKhl- butt, valuable assistance. The concert was undeniably a good o'neTand Herr Zimmermann will no doubt be long remembered for the pleasure lie has yiven Southland friends.
