Port Lines Mileage.
(Per United Press Assodati&n.) CHRISTCHUnCH, May 1. A deputation waited upon Sir Joseph Ward to-dny to urge a reduction in tho mileago Charges between Christcliurch and Lytteltpn. Tho distance is six n^lea 2G chains, and the charge is as for seven miles. The deputation asked that the mileage should be reduced to six "'miiss. In rtply, the Minister gaid that he woiild be prepared to recomnifcnd to his .colleagues that half niilas should bo counted on, port lines; 40 chains and under to be half a mile and over that one mile.
