Those Cables.

O NOT A KINDLY LINK, *' United Press Association. By Electric Telegraph— Copyright. w SYDNEY, May 1. Received 2nd, I.S a.m. In connection with Senator Scott's charge against N.S. Wales of breach of faith re the Pacific cable agreement, .Premier See has received a report on the subject from Mr Crick, who was Post-master-General at the time the agreement with the Eastern Extension Co. was entered into. He points out that N.S. Wales had already signed the Pacific agreement, and, "so far from Mr Scott's assertion having any foundation, it is so utterly opposed to truth that I' cannot conceive how any responsible, •person could make such an assertion." After outlining the negotiations, whereof Mr Chamberlain was advised, especially with regard to its bearing upon the; Pacific cable, tho agreement with the Eastern Extension Co.^ embodying the alterations suggested by Mr Chamberlain, was signed. Mr Crick concludes: " We therefore, being pledged, by Statute to do all we ever promised could sco no reason why wq should not avail ourselves, in the interests of the commercial community, of cheaper rates than were olTeVing by the Eastern Extension Co.. and which did not affect our fidelity in carrying out our contract for the Pacific cable."
