NIGHTCAPS
The meeting was moderately attended. Mr H. Hall, chairman of tho out-going committee,' reported that tho past year had been a very prosperous one. When tho committee took office there were I'JO children on tho roll, ■with an average attendance ot 110 : the roll auiaber at present is 134, and th« average attenU-
ance 114. Owing to the sudden increase j in the attendance at the beginning of last year, th» school was entitled to the services of a pupil teacher, and Miss Mc> Naughton was appointed by the Board. Tho attendance is steadily increasing ; children who, two years ago, were very irregular in coming to school are now seldom absentees. In fact some, who were rather poor attenders, are now aspiring to the winning of good attendance certificates. Ilr Gray, Miss Johnstone and Miss McNaughton formed a staff the district could well be proud of. The out-going committee congratulated them on the excellent results attained at the last examination. They also | wished to record their appreciation of the services of Mrs Gray, who, during her husband's illness, rendered valuable assistance in carrying on the work of the school, and also for the work she did towards making a success of the annual school concert. One of the senior scholars, Louis Clapp, had recently been appointed pupil teacher at Lumsdon. Repeated applications had been made to the Board for an enlargement of the play-ground ; and lately the Board enquired as to what ground is available for the purpose. The committee elected for the ensuing 12 months is as follows : —Messrs 11. T. Styles (chairman). R. Harding (secretary), IT. Hall, J. Rogers. M. Biggar, U. Dickson, M. Richards.
