The Daily Telegraph publishes an interview with Mr Leys, of Auckland, who sta.tes that after having had time to study the working of the Federal Constitution he finds no cause to alter the opinion, formed when he visited the Commonwealth as a member of the Federation Commission, against New Zealand's union with the Commonwealth. He speaks optimistically about the future of New Zealand.

At the half yearly meeting of the Colonial Sugar Company, the report (adopted) showed profits of £100,291 —a dividend of 10 per cent was declared, absorbing £100,000. The drought had adversely affected the cane, both in Australia aad Fiji, and good crops are not expected. The only satisfactory result of the drought was the proof that the cane suffered less by dry weather than any other crop.

The manager of the Winneckc Junction mine, Arltunga, reports striking payable gold while quarrying an outcrop. It is the best seen on the field, the lode being ten feet thick. He considers the development of great importance.
