At a meeting 01 St. Andrew s congregation to-night it was stated that an advisor committee hnd approached the Rev. Dr. Gibb with a view to his filling the vacancy, but it was understood that the doctor would prefer St. John's, about to be vacant by the retirement of the Rev. Jas. Patterson, should he decide to leave Dunedin. The committee recommended that the Rev. J. Gibson Smith, of Invercargill, be approached, and this recommendation was carried toy '23 to 14 in favour of an amendment that more candidates be heard
During the month of March 3040 persons arrived in the colony, and 2702 took iheiv departure ; the respective figures for March, 19-02, were 1940. and 3712.
At a meeting of the Education Board Mr F. Bradey was elected chairman in place of Mr J. R. Blair, resigned. During a discussion on the Technical School the secretary said that it had not been customary to bring forward balances on this school's account, but to treat it as part of the general account. Had balances been brought forward the school nccount would have shown a debit of £13,991 on January Ist. The inspectors stated that in their recomni&mlations for appointments, pupil teachers who have completed five years' service ' and have at the end of this year to leave the Board's employ 'according to the provisions .of the Salaries Act, would fc« given consideration.
