Sir,— Kindly permit mo the privilege to express through your columns what I think (and hundreds more besides me) should be compulsory in every hotel, viz., a private room set apart for the travelling public staying at the hotel for one night or longer, likewise a room for permanent lodgers, and that in these rooms no liquor should be allowed to bo consumed. I don't suppose, ns the law at present stands, that this is provided for, but I think the Licensing Committees would do well to consider when renewing licenses, muking a request, to tho Government to have such a clause added to the licensing laws. This reform, in my opinion, would Y>e a great step in elevating the liquor trade and hotelkeoping business, and makiug tho trade as respectable as any other commercial undertaking, and would, I venture to say, receive the support of many who are now opposed to the trade as it is carried on. Some of the so-called private rooms are nothing more nor less than public drinking rooms, and the word

•' private " should never have been written on their doors. As my business compels me to flo a deal of travelling and staying at hotels, ] must acknowledge that a decided change for the better is uppnrent in hotel uinnngcoient, but there are still yet some' reforms needed. — I am,
