News has been received from Mr Dun.can Macpherson, Into county 'ojitfiheer. for Wallace, that ho has reached Xhp . WfSt ('oast and has fairly settled" into work. The block of land he is engay<vl in cutting up is on the Karamea river, about 50 miles north of Westport. / Tir.. the same district, only lurther south- along the const, the following other Southland surveyors are engugetl in similar work : Messrs ISpenco, senr.,l Ohas. w Morrison, Thos. Onlbraith, and N. L. FalKiner
(late rond surveyor here). They hH report tho bush much more dense and wettes than Southland bush, while 1 tosquitos uijd samllliefr are very troublesome.
News has been received from South Africa that Mr Lilliecrona, who toft Inver* curgill some months ago, is practising his profession under a Pietersburg firni of surveyors. As tho Colonial Secretary in the Transvaal has promised an ordinance giWng surveyors f -om overman," tho right to practice under their own name, Mr Lilliecrona hopes soon to start on his own account.
