Visiting Firemen.

They wore competitors a!, t f-.o recent mooting in Napier , and on t lit ii" wtty home were the guests of ti.o liivercargill Fire Brigade for a couple of days. The local company has done the honours of the town excellently, ami tho visilo:? have departed with the warmest feelings of appreciation for the kindness they met with in Invercargill. On Saturday evening the Victorians were entertained at an oyster supper by the local brigade, when the chair was occupied by his Worship tho Mayor, nnd the vicechair by Acting-Captain Cook. Other councillors were present, and a pleasant couple of hours wero spoilt over the toast list. The speeches were complimentary on both sides, and songs were capitally given by Cr. Crosby Smith, Mr McLean, and Mr Tanner, secretary of tho visiting contingent, while Mr Cusworth presided at the piano. On the following day the Australians wero taken to various places of interest, among tho spots .visited being tho hospital grounds, waterworks and gardens, and Messrs l.ennie and Sons' nursery at Waikiwi. Tho tour was a pleasant surprise to the visitors, who were •. particularly delighted with the corporation gardens. Their previous impressions of Invercargill wero materially altered, and the dozen photographs which wero given them prior to their departure will serve to recall a really happy visit to this town ami to remind them of tho " jolly good follows " who so successfully entertained them.
