Bowling Notes.

♦ ; By "Skip.** j Northend bowlers have fallen on evil ( limes. When they journeyed to Gore a fortnight ago with four rinks they were ] beaten by 88 to 6fi, and on Wednesday j 1 last when they met the Southland play- , ers they went down in most decisive j fashion. At Gore they were opposed by ( the full strength or the locul club, and . although beaten miade a fairly creditable , stand. A, E. Smith was tho only visit- , ing skip to pilot his team to victory. " He secured a capital win against T. , • Lock, drawing and driving with equal ■ facility. W. P. Craig's team easily de- ' feated .las. Allan's and Holmes and Pati erson beat ITain and Findlay respecflve- ' ly. Smith, leading for Paterson, played a wonderfully consistent game. Indeed ~ the persistence with which he " courted Kitty " was quite sufficient to account for the seven points by which Findlay was defeated. Duncan Holmes handled his team like a general and quite out- " played his opponent. The game was a ' very pleasant one, perfect good-fellow- £ ship prevailing from the time the North- ' enders stepped off tha train till the hour of departure. s On Wednesday last the pennant match ] Northend v. Southland was played. At " rink No. 1 Yates was opposed by Ham *■ but the opposition was feeble and the most the Northenders could do wus to keep the scoring _ down. The result was c 1 23 to 9, a total of only 32 points. At t ' rink No. 2 Erskine and Findlay met. » Hero there was some tall scoring, Gve r fours and 1 five being recorded. The i: South team won by two points. A. E. j Smith at the third rink started away v with the lead from Rennie but it was t ogly temporary possession of the mat. < Tho twenty-first end saw him 15 points t to the bad — 30 to 15. This was larger j scoring even than the game at the 2nd _ rink . The match Southland v. Gore is looked forward to with special interest. Tho South players are taking a very strong contingent to Gore and I rather think will just about manage to win. The results of Wednesday's game were : — SOUTHLAND NORTHEND J. McNaHy A. Martin D Miller .T. Dunlop J. Lock . J. Allan J. Yates 23 J. Ham 9 W. Smith Mcllwrick ! R. Wesney J. Howia Wm. Lock W. Wesney t R. Erskine 27 Findlay 25 ] J. Taylor A. Crops | R.'Fisher A.
