The Labour Conference resolved bhit smendiug legislation to restore trades uuions to the le.^il position occupied prior lo the Taff Vale decision be made the f rat plank in their tighting platform, and adopted a resolution in favour, of amending the Federal Constitution so. as to limit the present power of the Imperial veto of Commonwealth legislation; urging that provision be made if a vetoed bill is *gain passed by the Federal Parliament after a general selection, or is approved, of by a national referendum, that the veto shall become inoperative and the measures be :oms law. Consequent on the outbreak of plague ab Fremantle and Durban and smallpox at the Cape, the various States are taking strict precautions to prevent their introduction. FREMANTLE, Jan. 28. Amongst nine plague contacts re moved to quarantine, two have developed tho disease in a bad form.
