The Evangelical Council ha 9 resolved to ask the Governor-General to appoint a Hoyal Commission to en juire into "the grave accusations and changes made .by Cardinal Moran on public occasions against the character of His Majesty's subjects iv a sphere beyond ordinary British jurisdiction— to wit, fJumoa, The grounds on which the request is made are that the honour and credit of the Ktnpir« demand that the charges should be searchingly and fearlessly investigated, with a view to bringing the authors !> 'of the alleged crimes to justice, if it i»' proved they have been perpetrated, or, if it is found they are false, of freeing British officers and Protestant missionaries from the stigma the Cardinal &oughi'.;'-t6 affix on them and the British Jianie. / itwas pointed out, as the Cardinal refuses to supply the alleged proof which would enable the aggrieved parties. to~ j-ut V the law in motion in the ordinary way, that there is no other way of making enquiry than by a 5 specially appointed Royal Commission. .
