TORTURED TO DEATH,
London, Dec. 5
Advices from Solonika state that the Turks avenged murders by the Bulgarian band whose meetings wore held in a priest’s house. The officials of Machikovo, in the presence of the magistrate, plucked the priest’s hair and beard out, and tortured him to death, searing the body with red hot irons.
The Turks had twenty-five casualties and the Bulgarians sixteen in an encounter near Castoria. FRANCE HAS A SAY. NO CONFIDENCE IN THE REFORMS. It is semi-officially stated that France warned Turkey to execute tho promised Macedonian reforms in order to prevent an outbreak of general movement, which advices on all sides otherwise foreshadow in the near future. Dec. 6. The Times Constantinople correspondent says the Porte’s reforms in Macedonia inspire no confidence whatever in diplomatic circles, and advices from Vienna show that the principal objection to the scheme lies in the absence of efficient European control.
