N.Z. Coil for the Navy

(Per Usit. d Press Association-) Wellington, Oct. 28. The trade done by New Zealand in supplying coal to the British squadron on the China station is steadily increasing. Mr Bingham, of the Naval Department, who watches the interests of the Admiralty in the colony, states that the present orders amount to 68,000 tons a year, all of which comes from the Granity Creek mines of the Westport Company. Next year there will probably be a large increase of the order. A regular transport service has been arranged, and it is probable the Admiralty will ultimately have a fleet for the service. Steps are being taken to improve the d estport bar, with a view to enabling largo vessels to clear as full ships without, as at present, having to finish loading at Wellington.
